March 2021 Newsletter
From the Manger: Well, another month has passed and not sure where the time goes. We achieved many of our goals this month and will be continuing to improve the facility. We have two new boarders: 1) Anthony Williams (Creig) and his horse Newt. His horse is in the C Barn and 2) Tamera Kilbourn and her horse Hollywood. Her horse is in the B Barn. We also have Amanda Witherspoon, a former trainer, returning to ARS with two horses Cowboy and Charlie. Cowboy is in the corral with Takota and Pocket and Charlie is in the pasture with Shiner Bock and Taylor. Please welcome them to the stables. I am ordering new signs that will be used to inform the boarders when the orchards are closed to riding and foot traffic. They will be placed at each exit of the ARS leased property when spraying or inspections are to be conducted. Please adhere to the signs as it is important not to ride or walk in the orchard when these activities are occurring. More signs are on the way to replace those at the entrance of the ranch. In addition, it has been observed that drivers are not adhering to the 20 MPH when driving to and from the ranch. Speed bumps are being considered to assist in controlling the speed of vehicles entering the property. I will keep you posted. February’s bedding inventory went well compared to January’s. We recorded 4 bags of shavings more than was in the inventory however, we were 3 bags of pellets short of our inventory. For March, we are short 3 bags of shavings and 8 bags of pellets based on usage and inventory so far. If you have not already paid for bedding used for the month of March, please do so at your earliest convenience. A few friendly reminders: • Riding on plowed and seeded areas is prohibited. • When riding out to Wood Canyon counterclockwise please do not cross the field that is plowed and seeded. Go around the field as if you were going to the Cow Barn and continue forward and up the little hill to the gate. Use this route in reverse when riding Wood Canyon clockwise. Please do not ride on the hill above the field as well as it can look like one is riding on the field. • Boarders are not permitted to leave horses in the turnouts or arenas while riding out on the trail or orchard, Boarders have informed me that this is continuing to occur, we must be courteous to other boarders. • Lastly, let us make sure treats are not left in places horses have easy access. There have been incidents where treats have been found on storage containers adjacent to stalls. I prepared a phone directory in lieu of a phone list. The phone directory consists of a phone list, the ARS layout, a depiction of the barns, corrals, pens, and pasture with the name of the boarder and horse as well as phone numbers for the various veterinarians. Please familiarize yourselves with the phone directory as it will be useful in cases of emergency. To make our facility as pleasant as possible, please know I welcome all who may have questions, comments, or concerns.
Sincerely, Tom Torres, Aliso Ranch Stables Manager
